Staying Healthy

Staying Cool in Warm Weather

Here are some tips for staying healthy when it’s hot outside:

  • Drink plenty of water.

  • Stay in air-conditioned places, or at least near a fan. Look for emergency cooling centers during heat waves.

  • Stay out of the sun, especially in the middle of the day.

  • Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothes.

  • Don't exercise outside. If you do, take it slow and take breaks as needed.

  • Watch for symptoms of heat-related illnesses, which include:
    • Muscle cramps.
    • Feeling very tired.
    • Weakness.
    • Headache.
    • Dizziness.
    • Nausea.

If you experience any of these symptoms, get to a cool place, drink water, and get help if you don’t start to feel better quickly.
